New Year’s Intentions Yoga Class
With David Berson
January 1st 2017, 1-2:30pm
The holiday season is upon us. Celebration and joy are in the air. After the gifts and time spent with family and friends the season will draw to a close with New Year’s Day. With the advent of a new year there comes an opportunity to turn over a new leaf, to have a sense of starting afresh.
A popular tradition is to make New Years Resolutions. We start out with new found inspiration and energy to hold on to these resolutions through out the coming year. Commonly it seems, after some time a disheartening old habit reappears and the resolutions tend to fall along the way side.
A recent trend gaining popularity is to set New Year’s Intentions. Rather than set precise goals, the idea is to set directions or destinations and enjoy the journey on the way there. We recognize that there’ll be a few detours and unplanned stops along the way. We are human after all. Intentions help shift the focus to holding on to that joy that we had in the holiday season as we journey through the year.
When we practice yoga poses we don’t start out expecting to do a perfect pose. We know it takes time to develop a good pose. We use props to help support us and explore the pose as we learn the finer details of the pose. We have good days when our bodies are cooperative. We have bad days when we’re still achy from past weekend activities. But through it all we still feel the benefits of experiencing the poses. Many of the concepts in studying yoga can be applied to resolutions and intentions.
This January 1st we will have a New Years Resolutions and Intentions workshop. The workshop will combine some ideas from practicing yoga with starting resolutions and intentions. There will be some discussion, a few simple yoga poses, and some handouts. We will take a look at a few yoga sutras that offer some wisdom for the journey of self improvement.
Preregistration is appreciated to get a count for the handouts. No prior yoga experience is necessary. Whether you want to set some New Year’s Resolutions or Intentions, I hope to see you at the workshop!
Sign up online to let us know you are coming, but just show up if you forget! All are welcome, no one will be turned away.
Cost: Use your class pass, or $17 drop in.
