Self-Myofascial Release Class with Julie Burtis, Physical Therapist
Saturday, November 7, 2015
12 to 2 pm, $30
Feeling tight? In this workshop, participants will learn how to use foam rollers and trigger point balls to release tight muscles, prevent injuries, and improve circulation. Muscle groups targeted will include calves, quadriceps, hip muscles, and the rotator cuff. We will also discuss how muscle restrictions lead to common pain patterns. A printout of the techniques taught in class will be provided.
Each participant should bring his or her own foam roller. Foam rollers can be purchased online or in most sporting goods stores and generally cost about $20. Black foam rollers provide a more intense massage, white foam rollers are more gentle. A 6 by 36 inch foam roller is recommended for this workshop. Trigger point balls will be provided for participants to use during the workshop and will be available for purchase.
Self-Myofascial Release foam rolling techniques are performed on the floor using the arms to support part of the body’s weight. Participants must be comfortable getting up and down from the floor and bearing some weight in the arms.
