Iyengar Yoga in the News
There has been a recent spate of articles and blog posts describing Iyengar Yoga and it benefits. If you are unfamiliar with Iyengar Yoga, these articles can help you to understand the basics of the method and why practicing yoga can be beneficial to you.
We have gathered up these articles to share with you.
The first article describes Eight great reasons to pracitce Iyengar Yoga. The description goes beyond the usual benefits of strength and flexibility to includes other ideas such as improve breathing and better food choices. As a long-time yoga practitioner, I have found all the benefits listed to be true for me.
The next article is from Times Life in the United Kingdom and offers a British perspective. The description of Iyengar Yoga as steering clear of overt commercialism rings true. There is perhaps too much emphasis on the fact that celebrities are doing Iyengar Yoga and weight loss. The article concludes by suggesting three poses to try – tree pose, side angle pose and seated pose.
The final post is not directly about Iyengar Yoga, but yoga in general. This post reviews a recent study on the effectiveness of yoga as preventive care for seniors. This study tracked two groups for over four years and found that the group that had mindfulness training fared far better than the control group and used less healthcare resources. It is interesting to note that the study was about relaxation techniques rather than about active yoga poses. Relaxation and resting the mind are an important part of yoga that can be overlooked in the quest for a workout. To that end, Sunset Yoga Center is offering a four week restorative yoga series.
Sunset Yoga Center offers Iyengar Yoga exclusively. All of Sunset Yoga Center’s teachers are certified Iyengar Yoga teachers or working towards certification.
